Simply Shelby by Emily Kaye had the sweetest little guy for his first birthday smash cake session. His facials were killing me the entire time I was editing and it literally put a huge smile on my face. First birthday sessions can be hard to plan for sometimes because you don’t always know the personality of your little one. Some one year old’s are super shy, have some stranger danger alerts, or literally don’t want to do anything you want them to do. Others are super personable, smile the whole time, or won’t sit still for anything. So what I’ve always taught my associates when going into a first birthday session is to have zero expectations. Meet the kiddo where they are at, and cater the session to their specific personality. Sometimes they need a little bit of time to warm up to you, plan time for that. Sometimes you need a more active or playful session if they wont’ hold still, have a backup for that. Sometimes you might need mom to hold their hands or bring a soothing toy or something into the session. Great will make it work! Don’t worry about how you think your one year old might be during a session, we are able to make the session work for them!
