As a photographer I get asked all the time how to take beautiful photos at home to document the day to day milestones of their kiddos, pets, family etc. I am all about taking all the photos and if you follow me you know that I am constantly taking photos of Beau and Winston. So I get the desire to photograph all the things. So here are a few tips for taking quality at home pictures:

- Invest in a quality camera. Whether that happens to be on your phone or any other camera you have on hand.
- Use good lighting. Open up all the blinds and use that natural light. Have the person or object facing the window, while you as the photographer have your back towards the window.
- Choose a good background. If that means rearranging your furniture to get that gorgeous lighting then do it. Use wide open spaces with neutral backdrops or add a sheet to the wall. You can also shoot down towards the ground on a beautiful blanket or textured material.
- Photograph activities. Go outside and photograph your family doing things that you love. Photograph them as they are getting ready, in motion, and taking breaks. Its a great way to tell a story too.
- Get in the photo. It can be tricky to get in front of the camera sometimes but those are memories that you want to make sure that you are in too. Your kids and family want to look back and see you as well and will be some of their most treasured photographs. Take a selfie, a mirror shot or even use a tripod. However you choose to do it, just make sure you make time for you to been seen too.
- If its not working, try again another day. Some days kids are just not having it and that’s okay too. Try on a day where they are in a good mood, got a great nap, or are wanting to get up and play. The great thing about photos are they never get old and being able to document those most fun moments, milestones, or everyday activities are all worth waiting for a good day.
